Institutional Approval to Pursue COVID-19 Human Subjects Research

Human Subjects Research is vital to curtailing the COVID-19 outbreak and preventing future pandemics. UW-Madison is committed to accelerating this investigative pursuit and has developed a centralized process for preventing duplicative research efforts, assessing study feasibility, prioritizing resources including biospecimens, and streamlining study activation.

Investigators who plan to conduct or engage in COVID-19 human subjects research are required to obtain authorization prior to IRB submission.  This requirement applies t0 research with biospecimens (both exempt and non-exempt) and studies with face-to-face participant interaction.
